Jim O’Neill is a distinguished music director who has shared his talents and expertise with the world of barbershop harmony for many years. With his singing and directorial involvement, spanning decades, Jim has amassed an impressive array of accolades, including being awarded Ontario District Master of Harmony. His musical leadership has resulted in various awards and medals along the way, including multiple Ontario District Championships, Top 10 International BHS Chorus Finalist, Ontario District Quartet Champion, and multiple Quartet medalist awards. Jim’s passion for excellence and his unwavering commitment to cultivating musical talent have established him as a revered figure in the barbershop community. Through his guidance and mentorship, Jim continues to inspire performers to reach new heights of artistic expression, leaving an indelible mark on the world of a cappella music. Jim O’Neill is the current director of the Skyway Connection Chorus, a dynamic and vibrant vocal ensemble dedicated to the art of barbershop harmony. With a passion for A Capella music, Jim brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. Under his leadership, the SCC has grown musically and in overall performance ability. The chorus continues to welcome new members to their group. Jim’s innovative approach to rehearsal techniques and his ability to inspire and motivate singers creates a fun, inclusive and warm environment to explore A cappella style in 4-part harmony. His commitment to musical excellence and his dedication to the members of the Skyway Connection Chorus make him a respected figure within the barbershop community. When he’s not working with the chorus and quartets, Jim O’Neill shows his dedication to advocate for various groups, serving as a participant for the HI Equality Diversity and Inclusion group. Finally, Jim helped develop the Director Mentorship Program with Kathy Stone and Adele Merrit, who oversees the program. Drawing on his extensive experience as a music director and educator, he provides guidance, support, and personalized mentorship to aspiring music directors, including SCC’s associate director, Michelle Bender.
